Our next journey will be our first overnight passage on Momentum 42, we are all very excited, except maybe Zorro. You see, all the time so far on the boat Zorro has not yet gone to the bathroom onboard. Ok, a quick explanation is required here. When you have pets, in our case our big dog Zorro, these animals will need to go to the bathroom but you may not be able to get to land. It could be they are not permitted on land or the anchorage does not allow us to go ashore or we are on a long passage so there's no land around us. What many boat owners do with their dogs is training them to go on a piece of artificial turf. We have a few of these on board to assist with training but so far no luck. If Zorro sees land he just holds it until we take him to shore, how long he can do this we are not sure. So far our longest passage has been just over 10 hour crossing the gulf stream to Bimini. The sailing trip from Cat Cay to Great Harbour Cay was just over 100 nautical miles and took about 21 hours...BUT we stopped to gas up on our way so Zorro got a bio break in the middle of the trip, no need to go onboard yet.
The Sail! Yes I said sail, because when we did the Gulf Stream we could not sail but on this trip we had great wind and managed to sail almost the entire distance. We started mortorsailing to the Northern tip of Bimini. Once we rounded Bimini the winds started to pick up and were off our beam. With 10-25 knots of wind letting us travel at 5-8 knots under sail. In fact when Bob came on for his night shift, we were thinking we may need to slow down in order to not arrive before the sun rises. Now Bob used to race when he was younger and could not help himself and opened the boat up a little. When Nikki came on shift three hours later we were way ahead of schedule. Nikki managed to slow us down a bit and we arrived in Bullocks Harbour on Great Harbour Cay, our first Island in The Berry Islands.
The water here was getting closer to that postcard blue one expects in the Bahamas and it was much warmer than Bimini.

Before we could enjoy it too much we needed to find shelter as our first big storm was coming and the marina had no room. Time to make find a a hiding place with good protection and holding for our anchor. Where did we go, how bad was it and where to next.
