Starting the New Year out right! January 1st, 2023 is a big day for us,as it is our first adventure on our new boat. Oh yeah! Big news: we finally came up with a name and had a decal made. Drum roll please!
Momentum 42. Let the journey continue.

Ok so some of you know but some may not. Nikki and my life together has been a series of adventures for the time we met. Early in our relationship Nikki had plans to go to Europe and travel. Not wanting to be alone for the rest of my life, I joined her and we cycled, hiked and backpacked our way around Europe and Egypt. This is a story for a different day. When we returned we saved money, bought our first of many real estate investments and started our first business Momentum Fitness with our good friend Lara. Momentum led to our second company Volo Innovation and allowed us to continue with real estate investments that allowed us to be able to start this journey of sailing around the world. Momentum has special meaning for us. We believe that you need to keep moving forward in life, don’t get bogged down with the day to day but make new plans and keep your momentum moving forward. Why 42? Well we are on a 42 foot Leopard catamaran, its for the two of us (and Zorro) and 42 is the meaning of life, the universe and everything else according to The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy. Kind of fitting for an adventure around the world on a boat.
So what does all that have to do with Zorro going to Cat Cay? Nothing I just enjoy rambling on every now and then so best get used to it if you are reading these blogs. It is January 1st and Bob, Nikki, Zorro and I are finally taking Momentum 42 out of Harbour Towne. First stop is not a long day, just a short hop South of Miami to No Name Harbour. No Name is a popular staging area for sailors heading to the Bahamas as they wait for a good weather window. Our plan is to spend a couple of nights here, waiting for the right weather window, and head out first thing in the morning to cross the Gulf Stream and land in Bimini in the Bahamas. Nikki had our route planned out and set so we enjoyed a couple of days walking the trails and listening to live music and drinking margaritas at the Cleat while enjoying the view of our boat to celebrate the sail down.

January 4th was the day where the winds were calm and in the right direction, great for crossing the Gulf Stream but not great for sailing, we ended up having to motor across the Gulf Stream. We had heard that this was more the norm than sailing the whole way. We checked in at Big Game Club on Bimini and spent the first night at the marina so we could walk around Bimini and get Zorro some shore time. Remember this is his first time ever on a boat so doing a 10 hour passage covering 51 nautical miles was a little stressful for him. Zorro is not a natural born sailor.
We had a visit from a pod of Dolphins which made Nikki's day!
The next day we went to Cat Cay South a lovely anchorage but as the name would imply it is not dog friendly or even people friendly - Cat owners get this. The locals who have houses there do not want us spoiling their beaches. That said there is a fantastic spit that is dry at most tides so a short dingy ride over and Zorro had some beach time.

This spit also made a great spot to launch our kites and get that first Bahamas kite session in, Nikki was grinning from ear to ear all night after that. Next trip Cat Cay to Great Harbour Cay.
