Life is an adventure that our momentum takes us on. Our goal is to keep our momentum going and enjoy the adventure.
We are Nikki Layton and Barry Duncan and this blog is meant to record and highlight the journey that we are on.
A few years ago we sold our fitness business, Momentum Fitness, and retired. It was time for us to start our next adventure. We both wanted to travel and have fun with the various recreational activities that we enjoy and to be able to take all of our toys with us. The problem this posed was we have a ton of gear for a variety of activities. Plus we wanted to be in an area for weeks or even months to enjoy the region like a local. The final puzzle piece was Zorro, our best friend and companion. How can two people, a hundred pound dog, a bunch of kiting, biking, rock climbing and other gear get around and experience this fantastic planet.
First solution was to buy a travel trailer and haul it around Canada, the US and Mexico. This would be a great way to start our journey off. We could spend as long as we wanted in an area and between the truck and trailer we could bring all our toys and of course Zorro. This journey started in 2018/2019 with a drive from Squamish, our home base, to La Ventana in the Baja of Mexico. LV is a great little fishing village turned windsport village that we had visited a couple of times and we knew people that wintered in the area. In 2020 the year of my 50th birthday we first went to South Padre Island in Texas and then over to LV for the winter kite season. As with the rest of the world we were interrupted by Covid, damn those global pandemics. We had to make a run for the border, travel across the US and get back to Canada. We made it back safe and sound.

Over the next few months we got to talking about LV and the Baja and how several of our friends were buying property or homes there. We needed to decide after three seasons of going to LV did we want to just settle in and make this our journey. Squamish to La Ventana every year with a few stops between. What is the future of land travel, how far can we go and more importantly where do we want to go.
The pandemic gave people a lot of time for reflection and even more time to research and watch YouTube channels. Nikki and I always enjoyed sailing and had felt that at some point we would get on a boat and sail to exotic locations of sand, sun and activity. Long and short of it by June of 2021 we had put a down payment on a brand new Leopard 42 catamaran. It seems that many people had the same idea as us and this caused the used boat market prices to surge. Making brand new almost the same price as used. Downside we would not get our boat until November of 2022. For us this was a good thing as we got an opportunity to brush up on our sailing skills, get our catamaran skippers license and to make all the personal arrangements that you need to do before you begin world travel.
The blogs that follow will start from our road trip to Fort Lauderdale from Squamish and cover all the places and events that transpire over the next three to five years of our sailing adventure. We hope that you will enjoy the trip as much as we hope to.
